Recipe ingredients
Sweet Tea: You can buy a jug of sweet iced tea (affiliate link) for convenience. Or, make it using a powdered mix. You also could steep black tea and then add sugar to taste. Here are some tips on brewing iced tea from Martha Stewart.
Rum: White rum, also called "light rum," works best here. It's sweeter ― and you guessed it ― lighter than dark rum.
Lemon Juice: You just need one tablespoon of fresh lemon juice for two drinks. I recommend squeezing half of a lemon until you have the amount you need. You could use bottled lemon juice if that's all you have, but it won't be as tasty.
Recipe Tips
- Try adding a little cinnamon for a spicy iced tea cocktail. It's delicious!
- Consider making a 2-quart pitcher (affiliate link) of this boozy iced tea if you have guests. Pour it over ice in each glass. Store any leftovers covered in the refrigerator.
Frequently asked questions
No, this iced tea and rum mixed drink isn't the same thing. As a matter of fact, Long Island Iced Tea doesn't even contain iced tea! It's a blend of five kinds of liquor but has the same color as tea.
Rum will last indefinitely, as long as it's not stored in the sunlight. Keep it tightly closed in a cool, dry place.
Once opened, a properly stored bottle of rum will be safe to consume indefinitely, according to Still Tasty. However, the rum may lose some of its flavor over time.
